Rules for access

These rules were developed based on our own experience and the desire to keep the equipment operational for any potential user. They are also developed based around our desire to keep you safe.

  • Users must go through Laser training and demonstrate proper usage of the equipment prior to being allowed to reserve time on the machine. To inquire about training please email sdl@emory.edu.
  • You must sign in to the local log book when using the equipment.
  • The cover for the Muse must be in place during operation.
  • Someone must be actively monitoring your cut/project for the duration of the cut. Even the best of plans go awry mid-cut. Someone needs to be able to hit the E-Stop quickly. Please plan accordingly if your cut will go into "after-hours" territory. This does not give you permission to stay after-hours.
  • You must be able to identify the E-Stop button to a staff member prior to cutting.
  • No cut more than 3 hours.
  • Users can provide their own materials.
    • Cutting specific materials can be extremely hazardous. For example, cutting PVC creates a chlorine gas. Materials must be approved prior to being put in contact with the laser.
    • We have a limited selection of materials freely available for use. They are supplied in a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • You must clean up after yourself.
    • Please account for 15 minutes after your cut to clean up appropriately. For example, booking from 4-5pm means you should finish your cut at 4:45pm.
  • You agree to abide by Emory Policies and Conduct Code when using the equipment.
